Subaru has done it all as an automaker, even since before it was founded 1953.
What started off in 1915 as the Aircraft Research Laboratory, headed by Japanese industrialist, politician, and cabinet minister Chikuhei Nakajima, got reorganized in 1932, becoming the Nakajima Aircraft Company -- one that, after World War II, would become Fuji Sangyo Co, Ltd. That firm, in 1946, used spare aircraft parts to manufacture the first Fuji Rabbit, the iconic motor scooter. By 1950, however, because of Japanese legislation, Fuji Sangyo would split into 12 smaller corporations.
However, that wasn't the end of it. It was just the beginning. Between 1953 and 1955, five of these corporations -- a coachbuilder, an engine maker, a chassis builder, the scooter manufacturer, and a trading company -- plus a newly formed one, would merge. They formed Fuji Heavy Industries, with CEO Kenji Kita quickly taking the business into car manufacturing. He named it Subaru, after the Pleiades star cluster depicted in the brand's contemporary and unmistakable logo. The Subaru heritage? It would become legendary in the auto industry.
It's a story that continues today, with Subaru now one of the most popular designers and builders of cars and SUVs out there. Its offerings range widely, from crossovers like Forester and Outback to sedans and hatchbacks like Legacy and Impreza. They're all built rugged, for everything from orienteering in the Great Outdoors to trekking through everyday bad weather. Subaru even manufactures some of the most coveted sports cars out there, like WRX and the rear-wheel-drive BRZ. Moreover, the name's known worldwide for innovations galore -- among them, its flat-four BOXER engine and permanent AWD system, Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.
Here at Sawtooth Subaru Parts, we uphold that commitment to excellence. Sure, we sell all kinds of auto parts -- everything from alternators and brakes to oil filters and spark plugs.
