The Subaru Legacy debuted in 1990 and is still going strong today. It was a compact car between its first and the 1994 model year, and from 1995 to the present, it has been a mid-size car. The model has been available as a five-door wagon and a four-door sedan along the way.
Trims and engine choices have been numerous throughout the car's career. Its first year, it came in base, L and LS trims, each with a 2.2-liter flat-four engine. LSi and Sport trims were added in 1991, and in 1994, Alpine Sport, GT, Outdoor, Sun Sport, and Touring trims joined the lineup.
1995 brought Brighton, Outback, and Postal trims, in 1996, a 2.5-liter engine got added, and in 1997, an Outback Limited trim was offered. A GT Limited trim followed in 1998, as did L 30th Anniversary, Limited 30th Anniversary, and SUS 30th Anniversary trims in 1999. 2003 saw the addition of an L SE trim, with 2004 making an L 35th Anniversary trim available and 2005 offering i and Limited trims.
For the 2006 model year, 2.5i and GT spec.B trims were options, as were 2.5i Limited and 2.5i Special Edition trims in 2007 and a 3.0 R Limited trim with a 3.0-liter flat-six engine in 2008. A 3.0 R trim debuted in 2009, and by 2010, some more familiar trims began to appear: 2.5i Premium, 2.5GT, 3.6R, 3.6R Premium, and 3.6R Limited, each with 3.6-liter flat-six engines. 2014 added a 2.5i Sport trim, and by 2020, Premium and Sport trims would be available, as would Limited XT and Touring XT trims. Each with 2.4-liter flat-four engines.
Features over the years ranged just as widely. Depending on yours, you could get everything from a choice between six-speed manual and continuously variable (CVT) transmissions to Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD), LED headlights, and EyeSight driver-assist tech, not to mention alloy wheels, push-button ignition, LED fog lights, and more.
