Subaru Outback Models

The Subaru Outback debuted in 1994 as a wagon based on the second-generation Subaru Legacy. By 1996, it was fast becoming an SUV, and for its second generation in 2000, it came into its own as the iconic crossover of today.

That year, base and Limited trims were offered, each with seating for five, and both models were powered by a 165-horsepower, 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. A sedan body style in a Limited trim was also available.

By 2007, the trim lineup ranged from 2.5i, 2.5i Basic, and 2.5i Limited to R L.L. Bean Edition and XT Limited. You could get one of three engines: either a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder, a turbocharged 2.5-liter, four-cylinder, or a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder, with power ratings at 175, 243, or 245 horsepower, depending on which you chose. Manual and automatic transmissions were offered, Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive came standard, and features included four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS), air conditioning, a six-disc CD changer, a bike carrier and ski attachment set, and more.

For 2021, base, Premium, Limited, Touring, Limited XT, Touring XT, and Onyx Edition XT trims were available, as was a turbocharged 2.4-liter, flat-four engine, capable of 260 horsepower and mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Features ranged from a roof rack, push-button ignition, and a heated steering wheel to alloy wheels, LED headlights, a front and rear windshield wiper de-icer, and more.
